Help Phoenix Walk Again
Phoenix has been unable to use his back legs since he was a puppy. With your help, he could walk again!
Phoenix’s Story
Phoenix was found at 6 weeks old with a severe spinal injury, likely the result of being hit by someone with something and then left for dead. Fortunately, he was found by a kind lady who brought him to the vet. He had open wounds on his body covered in maggots and was barely a skeleton. After two weeks of intensive vet care he was placed in foster care. His recovery started well and he even began to walk, however,his spinal injury was too severe and after a few months, Phoenix lost the use of his hind legs.

Surgery to try stabilise his spine was the only option, which he underwent in October 2017. Since then his recovery has been slow due to nerve damage, but he is a little fighter and with acupuncture, hydrotherapy and homeopathic medicine he has steadily improved. He is now at a stage where he has pain sensations in his hind legs and showing some control of movement. This means that he has a chance of walking again, but the pain is holding him back from attempting to try.
Phoenix is energetic and playful, so his wheelchair helps him stay mobile - but hip surgery hopefully will allow him to use his back legs to walk again.
We launched a crowdfunding campaign on Give.Asia in March 2020 to fund the next phase of Phoenix’s journey - hip surgery and rehabilitation. Within weeks we raised $3,700 to pay for Phoenix’s surgery, which corrected the dislocation, reduced Phoenix’s pain and set him on his journey to hopefully walking once again.
We now face 3 to 6 months (or more) of comprehensive rehabilitation. We are working with an experienced rehab vet to give Phoenix laser treatment to help restore nerve function, acupuncture, hydrotherapy and physiotherapy at least 3 times a week.
Phoenix had surgery at the end of March and started his rehabilitation program in early April, which includes acupuncture and laser therapy.
